10 min read SEP 27, 2023

Sophisticatedly sweet dark chocolate and decadently rich and creamy caramel swirl amidst smooth, bold coffee, the sweetness of these additions to the brew subtly cut by a pinch of mineral-rich sea salt.

With this description alone, can you imagine this symphony of flavors melodically gracing each and every one of your taste buds?

I can almost smell this union - the sea salt, the dark chocolate, the caramel…the coffee!

My mouth is now watering as I envision a warm mug in my hand. Steam rises from the brew and the aroma of these perfectly paired, unbelievably rich flavors greets my olfactory sense with pure, unadulterated pleasure.

Thankfully, you don’t have to simply imagine this carefully crafted marriage of some of the richest, most enjoyed, culinary confections!

Our Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Coffee has been released from our flavor vault just in time for fall, and we’re ready to sip and savor this decadently delicious brew over and over again.

So, in order to get the most out of this flavored selection, we’ve compiled some tips and recipes that will allow you to enjoy this incredibly tasty coffee in a variety of ways: from simple, to classic, extraordinary, and everything in between!

Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Recipes

1- Tips For Keepin’ It Simple

Before we begin adding a lot of extras to both complement and enhance the infused flavors of this decadent brew, let’s start simple.

All of our flavored coffee selections here at Lifeboost are made by soaking our freshly roasted beans in natural extracts and essential oils. Just after the beans are roasted they are a bit more porous, so soaking the coffee at this time allows the fragrances and flavors of the oils and extracts to be absorbed more easily.

When using flavored selections in recipes at home, adding components that mirror the infused flavors of the coffee is truly a delicious experience; however, when only combining a few classics with your flavored brew you still get to savor those decadent tastes in a drink that’s better suited for everyday sipping.

So, instead of a step-by-step recipe to start us out here, we’re going to cover a few easy tips for enjoying this flavored selection that you can incorporate each and every morning…or afternoon, evening, etc.

Cream

Adding a creamy element to your flavored java selection will allow you to savor an enhanced texture while masking the classic bitterness often associated with coffee.

We recommend using a tablespoon or so of heavy whipping cream in your flavored brew as heavy cream contains virtually no lactose and it boasts benefits to your immune system.

If you’re using non dairy milks or creamers, these can enhance the flavors infused into the coffee as well, though I’d recommend sticking to basic selections. For instance, if you’re using a vanilla flavored creamer, while still tasty, this won’t give you the best and most authentic sampling of a flavored coffee.

Sugar

For those who love a classic cream and sugar addition to their brews, whether enjoying hot or iced, if you typically use table sugar in your mug, consider using brown sugar instead when enjoying your Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Coffee.

Brown sugar has a deeper, more complex, flavor than white sugar, here naturally highlighting the richness of the caramel.

If you’re avoiding conventional sugars, liquid stevia is a great option as it has no aftertaste.

If you happen to notice a little bitterness when adding stevia to your brew, this flavored coffee selection, in particular, has a perfect solution - adding a touch of sea salt can tame any perceived bitterness in stevia, and since this selection already has a touch of this flavor, a small pinch will only serve to enhance this element.

Toppings

While we did skip the addition of syrups and sauces in this section to keep things simple, if you do prefer these extras, adding whipped cream and/or a decadent sauce on top of your brew is an easy way to dress up your drink even when you’re in a hurry.

My favorite way to do this with our Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Coffee is to make my brew without the addition of cream or sugar, just black. Then I top the coffee, hot or iced, with a generous dollop of whipped cream (dairy or non, homemade or canned) followed by a quick drizzle of caramel sauce, a drizzle of chocolate sauce, and a small pinch of coarse sea salt.

And, there you have it. We’ll spend some time now exploring some detailed and decadent recipes, but the above tips can allow you to enjoy this flavored selection with the addition of a few simple, everyday, ingredients to enhance these particular flavors and your brew as a whole.

2- Candy Coffee Cravings

With Halloween right around the corner, my sweet tooth starts to twitch, anticipating the confectionery flavors soon to fill my large pumpkin shaped bowl that sits on a bench near my front door.

That bowl will house sugary sweet treats of all kinds, awaiting the cutest, happiest, most excitingly fun little trick-or-treaters, and I’d consider myself dishonest to not confess the fact that I’ll succumb to the temptation to sample said candies most every time I pass by this bowl in the days leading up to Halloween.

One way I have recently enjoyed sampling such sweetness is by incorporating these confections in my coffee.

That’s right, we’re going to be adding actual candy to hot coffee in this recipe.

A few years back we created an entire recipe ebook incorporating this practice using espresso, making real food lattes and these drinks were incredible - decadent, delicious, unique, and just plain tasty!

So, that’s what we’re going to do here; I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces strongly brewed Lifeboost Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Coffee
  • ¼ cup grass fed organic whole milk (or milk of your choice)
  • ½-1 dark chocolate sea salt caramel candy

**Note: I used Sanders brand for this, but Dove also makes such a candy, and this is often easier to find. Also, a quality candy from an authentic chocolatier (think locally, fresh made chocolate here) would likely be unparalleled.

Instructions

  • We’re going to prep our mug first to ensure the candy fully dissolves. So, add 8 ounces of very hot, near boiling, water to your favorite mug. Allow this to warm the mug for approximately 1 minute, then discard the water and add ½-1 (depending on your preference) dark chocolate sea salt caramel candy to the bottom of the mug.
  • Allow the candy to rest for roughly 30 seconds in the hot mug, then brew or pour 8 ounces of strong coffee directly over the candy in the mug.
  • Wait for roughly 30 seconds to 1 minute, allowing the candy to continue to melt, then stir the coffee until the candy completely dissolves. This can take a bit depending on how thick or dense the caramel in the candy is.
  • Once the candy is fully incorporated into the coffee, add the milk to an electric frother and froth on the heated setting. Pour frothed milk over your coffee-candy creation, and enjoy!

3 - That’s My Mocha

Many chain coffee shops add a salted caramel mocha to their menu this time of year, and while these can be sinfully delicious, with our Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Coffee, you can easily make such a selection right from the comforts of your own kitchen.

And, the best part about making your own decadently delicious coffee drinks is that you can control what you’re putting into your drink and your body!

Here, you’ll be using real dark chocolate and you’ll even get to make your own salted caramel syrup to use in this recipe and any drink you choose at a later time.

Ingredients (makes 2 large servings)

  • 16 ounces freshly brewed Lifeboost Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Coffee
  • 16 ounces milk of your choice (I used coconut milk, and it was delicious.)
  • ½ cup 72% cacao dark chocolate chunks
  • 2 tablespoons salted caramel syrup, divided (see recipe below)
  • Whipped cream, optional for topping
  • Coarse sea salt, optional for topping

Instructions

  • Add milk to a small saucepan and heat over low-medium heat, stirring frequently, until the milk is heated through. Be careful not to scorch the milk.
  • Add finely chopped dark chocolate to the heated milk. Keep the heat on, and whisk briskly until the chocolate is fully melted and you have a smooth, creamy hot chocolate. Once incorporated, remove from heat.
  • Grab two of your favorite *large* mugs, and add 1 tablespoon of salted caramel syrup to each mug.
  • Divide freshly brewed coffee between the two mugs.
  • Now, divide the prepared hot chocolate between the two mugs, pouring it over the coffee.
  • Stir the contents of each mug to fully combine the syrup, coffee, and hot chocolate. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of sea salt, if desired. Enjoy!

Homemade Sea Salt Caramel Syrup

  • 1 ½ cups organic cane sugar
  • 3 cups water, divided
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Add sugar and 1 ½ cups water to a medium saucepan and heat over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until sugar is dissolved and the mixture comes to a rolling boil. Allow the mixture to continue boiling at this temperature until it begins to turn an amber color. (This could take between 20-40 minutes. Just be sure to check frequently, keeping an especially close eye on the mixture from 15 minutes and beyond.)

When the water-sugar mixture is almost finished, boil the remaining 1 ½ cups of water and set aside. As soon as the sugar-water mixture reaches the desired amber or caramel color, very carefully add the hot water to the mixture, stirring as you pour. *If the mixture begins to harden at all due to the differing temperatures of the water, simply return the mixture to medium heat, just long enough for any sugar crystal to dissolve.

Remove from heat and add vanilla and sea salt, stirring to combine. Allow the syrup to cool for 30 minutes, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. (This should keep, under refrigeration, for up to one month.)

4- Iced Mocha Sea Foam Latte

No worries, there’s no actual sea foam in this icy latte, but adding a bit of sea salt and sweetness to a delicious and creamy cold foam topper for this sinfully sweet caramel mocha warranted this unique and fun coffee recipe title.

For those fall days when you’re craving something sweet, something cold, and something utterly delicious, this latte meets all the criteria!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Coffee
  • ¼ cup milk (your choice)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons chocolate sauce (see recipe below)
  • 1 tablespoon caramel sauce
  • Ice
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons cane sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  • Add ice to a tall glass and pour cold brew over ice.
  • Add milk, chocolate sauce, and caramel sauce to the coffee, then stir to combine and set aside.
  • Add heavy cream, milk, sugar, and salt to a bowl. Using an immersion blender, blend until smooth, thick, and foamy. You can also cut these amounts in half and add to an electric frother. Simply select the cold froth setting when using this method.
  • Top the prepared latte with a desired amount of sea salt cold foam. Drizzle with a little extra caramel and/or chocolate sauce if you’d like, and enjoy!

*Note: This is excellent with store bought dark chocolate sauce, but if you’d like to make your own, the following recipe is simple, quick, vegan, and only uses two ingredients!

Homemade Chocolate Sauce

  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Add syrup and cocoa powder to a small bowl and mix until well combined. Sauce keeps for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

I have reviewed your delicious coffee recipes and wondered if you have retail stores such as Starbucks etc that sell your products and recipes. If not is it possible to set up a retail store selling your products and coffee recipes.
