Chocolate Orange candies are a seasonal favorite for many, bringing to mind warm holiday memories with each enjoyable bite.

When combined with coffee, however, this duo embodies all the warmth this season offers - sweet sips, bites, and memories - all in one decadently delightful mug.

This is why some like to call our Chocolate Covered Orange flavored coffee ‘Christmas in a cup.’

If you grew up sampling this familiar holiday confection, chocolate orange candies, then the following scene isn’t something that’s simply familiar, but sweetly comforting…

Smooth and creamy milk chocolate kissed with the noticeably tart, sweet, bite of an orange melts within the warmth of your mouth.

As you enjoy each bite, likely indulging in one too many slices of the orb shaped candy before being reminded to slowly savor, the pleasant aroma of coffee floods both the room and your senses.

The adults - mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, and neighbors - savor their sips alongside a single slice (or two) of this decadent treat, each wedge instantaneously dancing across their tastebuds when combined with warm, robust coffee.

As an adult, each time I enjoy a slice of this creamy, citrus-infused chocolate candy, I think of my grandpa.

He often told us of times when he and his siblings would commonly receive only an orange and a peppermint stick as a holiday gift.

“Simpler times and pleasant memories,” he’d say…and that’s what this confectionery holiday favorite signifies for so many…simpler times, pleasant memories.

We hope the nostalgia of these flavors enjoyed throughout the cold winter months warm your heart as much as they do ours!

And, as you peruse and prepare any or all of the following recipes, feel free to share your favorite memories surrounding coffee and these classic confectionery treats…or simply let us know your new favorite Chocolate Covered Orange Coffee creation. (I still can’t decide which one I like most!)

Chocolate Covered Orange Candy Coffee - 5 Recipes To Sip And Savor Throughout The Season

In the following recipes you’ll not only savor the flavors of chocolate covered orange candy coupled with bold and smooth Lifeboost coffee, but you’ll also find numerous ways to actually use these classic holiday-time candies in your brew!

From a classic latte to a flavor filled mocha, a tasty cocktail, and more, each one amplifies the subtle, smooth flavors of this timeless candy and cup.

1- The OG Chocolate Covered Orange Latte

If you’ve had a chance to check out our Real Food Lattes ebook, then this recipe will be easy peasy, as it incorporates some of the same techniques used in that decadent collection.

I really love the way Erica (one of our fabulous Lifeboost customers) reviewed this compilation of recipes, as I think it best sums up what using real foods - or in today’s case, candies - in your brew can bring to your coffee routine: “okay, so this book will have you attempting 2-3 recipes a day just to see which one is better, while other recipes will test your skill…Thank you, Lifeboost Coffee!”

You see, we’re typically accustomed to adding milk/cream, sugar, or even a few syrups and spices to our cup when looking to fancy things up a bit. But using real foods provides a fun and creative way to add a little flare to your typical brew.

And, since we’re highlighting this holiday classic - the (one and only) chocolate orange - I thought it’d be fun to incorporate our Real Food Latte tricks and techniques to infuse these flavors directly into our similarly inspired Lifeboost Chocolate Covered Orange Coffee! Yum!

Typically, espresso is used as a base in real food lattes, as this strong brew can easily stand up to the infusion of just about any rich flavors you can come up with, but I think you’ll find this subtle addition works just as well in our medium roast based, holiday-inspired, cup of pure nostalgia!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces strongly brewed Lifeboost Chocolate Covered Orange Coffee
  • 2 slices/pieces of a Milk Chocolate Orange Candy ball
  • 4 ounces milk

Instructions

  • Add 2 slices or pieces of a milk chocolate orange candy ball to a large mug, then top with freshly brewed coffee. Wait for approximately 30 seconds, allowing the heat from the freshly brewed coffee to begin melting the candy, then stir until the candy is fully incorporated into your brew.
  • Add milk to an electric frother, and froth on the heated setting.
  • Top the coffee mixture with the warm, frothed milk, and enjoy!

*If you want to keep things simple and omit the foam, you can always warm your milk (minus any frothing or steaming) and just add the warmed milk to your flavor infused brew, give it a stir, and enjoy!

2- Marm’s The Word

Yes, we’re just so punny around here!

But, once you try this delicious marmalade infused mug, you certainly won’t want to keep it a secret!

We promise to stick to the citrusy, silky flavor combination of orange and chocolate in this recipe, but here you’ll be incorporating those tastes with an English breakfast classic - orange marmalade!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Chocolate Covered Orange Coffee
  • 2 teaspoons orange marmalade
  • 2 teaspoons chocolate sauce
  • ½ cup cashew milk (or whole milk)
  • Ice

Instructions

*As most orange marmalades do contain orange peel/rind, we’ll include a step to strain this from your iced latte. However, if you don’t mind this addition, you can opt to skip straining and enjoy as-is.

  • Add orange marmalade and chocolate sauce to cold brew, stirring vigorously to combine.
  • Then, to remove the remaining orange peel, simply strain the flavored mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a separate mug filled with ice.
  • Top the mixture with cashew milk and give it a slight stir to incorporate. Enjoy!

**If you’d like to enjoy this one hot, I like to do so by adding milk, orange marmalade, and chocolate sauce to a small saucepan, heating over low heat, stirring occasionally, just until the mixture is warmed through and thoroughly combined.

Once combined, strain through a fine mesh strainer (if desired) into a large mug. Top with coffee, give it a slight stir, and enjoy!

3- Chocolate Orange Modified Martini

Typically, a martini incorporates the flavors of bold espresso and strong, crisp vodka, but this modification puts a tasty twist on this classic with a hint of citrus, a touch of creamy chocolate liqueur, and decadently delicious coffee infused with tastes that echo the timeless spirits in this drink.

Add a garnish of brightly colored orange peel and a slice of chocolate orange candy for a sweet bite to enjoy while sipping, and you’ll be coming back for more…and more!

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Chocolate Covered Orange Coffee
  • 1 ounce orange vodka
  • 1 ounce chocolate liqueur
  • 1 ounce Kahlua
  • Ice
  • Chocolate orange candy ball slice, for garnish
  • Orange peel curl, for garnish

Instructions

  • Add cold brew, vodka, chocolate liqueur, Kahlua, and ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously until frost forms on the outside of the shaker.
  • Strain mixture into a cocktail glass (martini glass works well), then add orange peel and chocolate orange candy to the rim for garnish. Enjoy!

4- Chocolate Orange Mocha

Hot cocoa meets coffee meets a holiday classic in this flavor infused mocha.

A warm mug of hot chocolate is a staple for many throughout the winter months. Not only does it bring all the cozy, nostalgic vibes we enjoy throughout the season, but it also serves to warm up our bodies in the tastiest way.

Of course, we coffee lovers can easily testify that our beloved brew brings the same benefit, so why not marry this duo with a touch of sweet citrus for a treat that truly takes this seasonal comfort to new heights!

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 12 ounces freshly brewed Lifeboost Chocolate Covered Orange Coffee
  • 10 pieces/slices dark chocolate orange candy
  • 12 ounces whole milk
  • 1 strip of orange peel

Instructions

  • Finely chop the dark chocolate orange candy pieces and set aside.
  • Remove any pith from the orange peel and set aside.
  • Add milk, chocolate pieces, and orange peel to a medium saucepan over low-medium heat.
  • Heat slowly, stirring frequently to allow the chocolate to fully melt into the milk. Heat only until the milk is warmed through and the chocolate is melted to avoid burning.
  • Remove the orange peel and discard.
  • Using a handheld frother, froth the warmed chocolate orange milk until it reaches your personally preferred level of foamy, coffee-topping, goodness! (I’m a huge fan of foam toppers for coffee, so I like to froth this until it nearly doubles in size. If you don’t want that much foam, or if you’d prefer this without a foamy element, simply skip this step.)
  • Divide freshly brewed coffee between two mugs.
  • Evenly top each mug with the warmed, frothed chocolate-orange milk, and enjoy!

5- Chocolate Orange Chunk Cookies

Making cookies during the holidays is a long time tradition in my family. And, each year it seems as if the cookie list grows with new and exciting suggestions that enter the conversation when someone encounters a tasty idea they’d like to try.

Usually, it’s my kids, dad, or cousins who add to the list, but this year, after researching this uniquely delicious flavor combination, I’ll be the one requesting an addition!

(I am the one who’s doing nearly all of the baking nowadays, so I suppose I’ve earned my own request, wouldn’t you say?)

Instead of closing out our collection with another coffee recipe, I thought I’d leave you with this irresistible treat, something you can pair with a piping hot cup of our Lifeboost Chocolate Covered Orange Coffee or a mug of one of our classic roasts, if you’d prefer a selection sans any flavor infusions.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cups salted butter, softened
  • 1 ¼ cups light brown sugar
  • 1 cup (heaping) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract (not imitation)
  • 1 teaspoon orange oil
  • Zest of one orange
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 12 ounce milk chocolate bar, chopped
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Milk chocolate orange ball (slices used for topping cookies)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar for a full five minutes.
  • Beat in eggs, one at a time, then vanilla, orange oil, and orange zest, mixing to combine.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and coarse salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  • Fold in the chopped milk chocolate bar pieces until evenly distributed.
  • Using a #12 scoop, scoop out portions of dough onto a prepared baking sheet, leaving ample space between the cookies.
  • Top with flaky sea salt and extra chopped chocolate, if desired, then bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cookies have spread slightly and are golden brown.
  • Immediately upon taking the cookies out of the oven, gently press a chocolate orange candy slice into the top of each cookie.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 25 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to finish cooling.

FAQ

1- Can you use a regular or classic coffee roast in these recipes instead of the flavored selection?

You can certainly use a classic roast in any of these recipes. However, using our Chocolate Covered Orange Coffee does indeed amplify the flavors used in these recipes today for a “chef’s kiss” cup.

2- I don’t have a #12 scoop for the cookie recipe, can I just scoop by the tablespoon when preparing the cookies for baking?

Yes!

If you don’t have a #12 cookie scoop, you can definitely bake these by the tablespoon. However, they may not take as long to bake, so keep a close eye on them to avoid burning the cookies.

As is, this recipe yields some fairly large cookies, so baking by the tablespoon would also allow for smaller cookies (and more to share).
