Breathe in Spring: How to use a Seasonal Shift as a Stepping Stone

5 min read MAR 19, 2025

A longtime symbol of new beginnings, spring has always been a time for growth. The spring equinox, also known as vernal equinox, is the moment of the year where the sun finds itself directly over the equator, bringing equal durations of daylight and darkness around the globe. For those of us who have faced long winters, the start of spring is a moment we’ve been waiting for. Days are getting longer, and the sun is doing its work to bring growth to all kinds of natural wonders. Spring energy is waiting for you to capture it in any way you choose.

We use many markers during the year to “start fresh.” September brings us back to work and school after summer fun, and the New Year gives us a chance to set goals, which may get lost - but let’s explore why Spring is arguably the best time to set a new foot forward. Using the fresh spring air, March, April and May are great months to reign yourself in and put new ideas into motion. While winter brings necessary rest, spring is an activated time of the year. Energetically, the start of spring can be used as this new starting point. Reset your intentions, grab a cup of coffee or tea and sit yourself down to think about the practical ways you can use this new season to inspire change in your life, should you need that!

Checking In With Yourself

We want to start by giving you a simple, yet practical way to check in with yourself. Sometimes we get so lost in what we think we should be achieving, or where we should be at this point in the year that we often forget to listen to our bodies and our own minds throughout the process of growth.

Checking in with yourself can be as easy as asking some exploratory questions. For this exercise, grab a piece of paper or a journal and take a moment to reflect on where you see yourself headed. Remember, summer comes along faster than you think - so now is the time to focus on finding the energy you want to bring into the next few months, to set yourself up for summer and beyond.

Take a moment and think about the following questions:

  • What or who has been bringing you good energy, and how can you find more of that?
  • How have you been sleeping?
  • How can you find more balance in your life?
  • How are your energy levels?
  • Is there a time of day you have been losing steam?

When you set goals for yourself at the beginning of a new year, you set benchmarks and expectations on change. While this is often a great motivator and a great way to visualize changes you want to make in your life, it is important to check in with yourself periodically throughout the year to understand your progress.

What do I mean by this? Just like the questions above, it is important to get to the “what” and “why” of where you are at. What has hindered or helped your progress? Why are you feeling a certain way? Is it positive or negative influences?

Reenergizing yourself is important to do throughout the year, and spring brings with it longer days filled with more sunshine and light. Take advantage of the new beginnings spring offers and allow yourself room to reset and grow.
