Rob Floyd’s Celebrity Cocktail Video Tutorials
Rob Floyd is a mixologist, a liquid chef, and the global mixologist with Princess Cruises.
Since 1989, Floyd has been wowing crowds with his skills, specially designing cocktails for the Emmys, Grammys, and Oscars. And, more recently he has been the heart of the reality series Bar Rescue and the face, mind, talent, and vision behind Rob Floyd Entertainment.
Rob Floyd Entertainment is a global mixology practice specializing in live and virtual events as well as multi-level consulting.
Floyd explained in his interview with Travel & Write Today that he got into the bar business as an accidental profession, thoroughly enjoying the interaction and what he felt he could bring to those he encountered.
“I absolutely love making people happy, and the interaction every night feels like anything can happen…There is a great study that says people laugh and smile about 17 times a day, but in a great bar, they do it 17 times an hour. I currently train over 2000 mixologists around the world, and I make sure each and every property and team live by the ‘Rule of 17’.”
When creating new cocktails, Floyd has explained that he derives inspiration from Eleanora Duse, an actress so brilliant, her performances so powerful, that people thought she might be possessed.
When making a cocktail for a specific establishment, Rob states “I make sure [I know] what the property is about first, what is their essence and what do they want to be about?” Floyd then explains that he makes cocktails and beverages that reflect that brand.
And, while we’re in the coffee, not cocktail, business, we can all attest, as human beings, that when someone takes the time to get to know you (or on a larger scale, your establishment) this is sure to go a long way when it comes to creating a product, such as an incredibly delicious cocktail, best suited to you…your likes, interests, tastes, and more.
As Floyd creates cocktails and trains fellow mixologists, this element of connection (on top of his incredible talent, of course), sure seems to be what fuels his success.
Floyd has created countless cocktails, but today we’re bringing you a truly amazing treat, sharing with you 4 of his exceptionally delicious coffee cocktails.
So, pull up a chair, brew a cup of joe, and bring your grocery list so you can add each ingredient necessary to craft these masterpieces yourself!
1- Lifeboost Espresso Martini
Most espresso martinis are obviously made using deep, dark, bold espresso which easily stands up to the addition of vodka and coffee liqueur. But, when using cold brew, even a smooth medium roast (as used here) brings a similar boldness.
As many of you know, Lifeboost coffee is naturally low acid, but when you prepare coffee by cold brewing, this also cuts down on acidity, while making a more concentrated brew. So, you’re really going to love the near creamy smoothness enjoyed in this combination.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ ounces vodka
- ½ ounce Kahlua or coffee liqueur
- ½ ounce Demerara syrup
- 1 ½ ounce cold brewed Lifeboost Medium Roast Coffee
- Ice
- Salt
- Whip shots (vodka based canned whipped cream for topping)
Instructions
- Place a martini glass in the freezer to get it nice and frosty for serving your martini.
- Add vodka, coffee liqueur, demerara syrup, cold brew, and ice to a cocktail shaker.
- Cover your shaker, then shake vigorously.
- Pour the shaken mixture into a frosted martini glass.
- Sprinkle just a pinch of salt onto the cocktail to add more depth of flavor.
- Top your cocktail with Whip Shots vodka infused whipped cream, and enjoy!
2- Maple Mocha Magic
Magic truly happens when you mix coffee, maple, and chocolate flavors. And, this cocktail is simple, yet beyond magical when it hits your palate where you’ll taste warm bold coffee and sweet, natural maple syrup, both sipped through creamy, smooth, velvety mocha and vodka infused whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 6 ounces freshly brewed Lifeboost Medium Roast Coffee
- 1 ½ ounces Kahlua or coffee liqueur
- 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
- Mocha Whip Shots (vodka infused whipped cream)
- Chocolate shavings, optional for topping
Instructions
- Add freshly brewed coffee to a cocktail mug, then add coffee liqueur and maple syrup, stirring gently to combine.
- You can enjoy this cocktail now, as is, or take it to the next level (which we highly recommend) and top with Mocha Whip Shots and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings. Enjoy!
3- Golden Butterscotch Martini
Just as we mentioned above with the espresso martini, cold brewing coffee produces a more concentrated brew, which makes the perfect addition to the rich butterscotch flavors in this martini, even though you’ll be using a medium roast instead of espresso.
The smoothness of cold brew, sophistication of vodka, buttery sweetness of butterscotch schnapps, and rich creaminess of the Irish cream liqueur in this cocktail will leave you simply speechless as you can’t help but take one sip after another, and another.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ ounces vodka
- ¾ ounce butterscotch schnapps
- ½ ounce Kahlua or coffee liqueur
- ½ ounce Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur
- 2 ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Medium Roast Coffee
- ice
- Edible gold dust, for topping
- creamy butterscotch candy for garnish
Instructions
- Put a martini glass in the freezer, and allow it to chill.
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, including ice, and shake vigorously.
- Strain the mixture (simply pouring from your cocktail shaker) into your frosted martini glass, then top with edible gold dust and gently stir to incorporate the dust, giving your cocktail a beautiful shimmer.
- Add a butterscotch candy (through a skewer as shown in the video) across the top of your martini glass for garnish, and enjoy!
4- Cadillac Coffee
Smooth, bold cold brew pairs with the timeless flavors of vodka and the slightest hint of bitter orange and vanilla bean from the addition of Grand Marnier. These flavors are then effortlessly pulled together from a welcomed touch of sweetest between the coffee liqueur and demerara syrup to bring you a sophisticated cocktail that you’ll thoroughly enjoy.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ ounces vodka
- 1 ½ ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Medium Roast Coffee
- ½ ounce Grand Marnier
- ½ ounce coffee liqueur
- ¼ ounce Demerara syrup
- Ice
- Salt, optional for topping
Instructions
- Add ice to a cocktail glass and set aside.
- Grab a cocktail shaker, and add the vodka, cold brew, Grand Marnier, coffee liqueur, Demerara syrup, and ice to the shaker.
- Cover the shaker and shake, as Floyd says “corner to corner, almost like you’re dancing” to really incorporate the flavors in the mixture.
- Pour the cocktail into your cocktail glass.
- If you’d like, sprinkle just a little bit of salt on top for flavor enhancement. Give the cocktail a quick stir, then enjoy!
