Ignite Your Senses Through The Fabulous Flavors Of Coffee Truffles AND Truffle Coffee
What would you say is the most iconic flavor combination?
Could it be peas and carrots, that classic Forrest and Jenny description?
Perhaps peanut butter and jelly?
What about pumpkin and cinnamon (spice)?
Chocolate and peanut butter?
According to multiple sources, the combination of chocolate and peanut butter apparently wins this flavor battle by a landslide, but there’s another wildly popular pair that we believe you, our customers, our like-minded coffee lovers, will greatly appreciate!
Coffee and chocolate are truly considered iconic, a beloved flavor combination used to make tremendously tasty ice creams, decadently delicious desserts, and beyond fabulous beverages.
The primary reason these two flavors commonly win over our taste buds (and our hearts) is due to the fact that they are complementary, with the inherent bitterness of coffee and the slightly bitter yet sweet notes of chocolate serving to balance one another out, yielding an intensely satisfying experience, no matter how you enjoy this duo.
Even better, when enjoying the pairing of coffee and chocolate, you can easily incorporate added flavors in this mix to enhance the experience.
Coffee, chocolate, and tart cherries…mmmmm.
Coffee, chocolate, and sweet coconut…yum.
Coffee, chocolate, and buttery macadamia nuts…delightful.
Coffee, chocolate, and tart yet sweet raspberries…amazing.
Coffee, chocolate, and creamy peanut butter…out of this world!
You might recognize the above combinations from our flavored coffee selections where we have amplified the smooth, robust, and clean taste of our medium roast coffee by adding essential oils and natural baking extracts, combinations which produce rich, decadent coffee truffle flavors you can enjoy, sip after sip.
And, while I must admit these coffees are incredibly smooth, rich, and delicious, there’s also nothing that compares to a homemade, creamy, velvety coffee truffle…unless you’re enjoying a coffee truffle alongside a piping hot cup of Lifeboost coffee, that is!
So, let’s take a moment to prepare our taste buds for what’s to come:
- smooth, creamy, soft, and sometimes slightly gooey textures
- rich, intense, slightly sweet, somewhat bitter flavors
In only a single bite, the aroma of the coffee wafts upward, the familiar scent bringing an involuntary smile to your face.
As you bite into the truffle, the structure slightly buckles, and the flavors effortlessly melt onto your tongue.
You then decide to enhance this experience, taking a sip of your freshly brewed coffee, where the warmth causes the decadent truffle and bold brew to unite, mingling this symphony of flavors, and evoking a dance of destined tastes across your tongue.
Is anyone else lost in a coffee truffle dream right now?
Just me?
Okay then, moving on, there’s only one thing we can do now - make coffee truffles! (and a few coffee truffle lattes, of course!)
Coffee Truffles, Truffles & Coffee, AND Truffle Coffee
We’ll cover three flavor combinations today:
- coffee truffles, combining the rich decadent flavors of both chocolate and coffee
- truffles and coffee, here we’ll list a few popular truffle flavors along with coffee recommendations which allow you to enhance the flavors in both your brew and your truffle selection
- truffle coffee, here we’ll provide you with a few tasty ways to enjoy a couple of our truffle inspired coffee flavors
First, coffee truffles…
1- Dark Chocolate Coffee Truffles

These could potentially be termed double coffee dark chocolate truffles, should you choose coffee as your choice topping, and frankly, double coffee anything sounds like a win in my book!
So, why didn’t we call these decadent gems by this name?
These truffles are so easy to make, you’ll likely want to try a variety of tasty toppings, flavors that can slightly influence your overall tasting experience. So, we’ll keep the name/description basic, then you can feel free to use any of the following (or more) to roll your truffles in, enhancing the overall flavor, texture, and entire taste bud tantalizing adventure!
- Crushed coffee beans
- Shaved chocolate
- Cocoa powder
- Powdered sugar
- Matcha powder
- Finely chopped and toasted nuts (pecans, walnuts, peanuts, pistachios, etc)
- Peppermint candy pieces
- Crushed freeze-dried raspberries (this would amazingly set off a pairing with our Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Coffee)
- Very finely chopped dried coconut flakes (perfect with our Dark Chocolate Coconut Truffle Coffee)
- A mixture of ground cinnamon and powdered sugar (add a few pinches of cayenne pepper to this mix and you’ll experience flavors reminiscent of Mexican hot chocolate)
- Crumbled and crushed cookies
**Note: You’ll see that this recipe calls for whole bean coffee. If you do not have whole beans, you can use 1-2 tablespoons of ground coffee, but you’ll need to use a fine sieve or a coffee filter for straining.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces dark chocolate chips or pieces
- ¾ cup heavy whipping cream
- ¼ cup Lifeboost Dark Roast Coffee (whole beans)
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- For rolling: finely ground coffee, or any one of the options listed above
Instructions
- Place dark chocolate in a glass mixing bowl and set aside.
- In a small saucepan over low-medium heat, bring heavy whipping cream, coffee beans, butter, and sugar to a light simmer.
- Once simmering, remove from heat and allow the mixture to rest or steep for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, return the mixture to the heat and bring just to a simmer.
- Strain the hot mixture into the bowl of chocolate pieces, discarding the coffee beans.
- Let sit for 3-5 minutes.
- Beginning in the middle of the bowl, start stirring the chocolate and cream slowly until all of the chocolate is melted and the cream is fully incorporated. (mixture should be very smooth)
- Cover with plastic wrap, allowing the plastic to rest on the mixture to avoid a skin forming over the chocolate, and place in the refrigerator to chill for at least 1-2 hours.
- Once the mixture is mostly solid, scoop out roughly 1 teaspoon of the mixture at a time and roll into a ball. Try to handle the chocolate quickly, with cool hands, to avoid melting.
- Roll each ball into ground or crushed coffee beans (a food processor pulsed mixture of coffee beans and dark chocolate is also very good), or a topping of your choosing, and enjoy!
2- Mocha Truffles

These truffles are slightly sweeter, removing that touch of bitterness inherently associated with dark chocolate, instead replacing this with a smooth milk (or semi-sweet, your choice) chocolate.
With this milder, sweeter truffle, you may find our Light Roast, Medium Roast, or any one of our Truffle infused selections to be a perfect pairing! (Cherry Mocha Truffle, Dark Chocolate Coconut Truffle, Chocolate Macadamia Truffle, Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffle)
Ingredients
- 16 ounces milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate, chopped, divided
- 2 tablespoons strongly brewed Lifeboost Dark Roast Coffee (or any Lifeboost Truffle Coffee selection, see above)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil, optional
Instructions
- In a medium bowl add 8 ounces of chopped chocolate, brewed coffee, butter, vanilla, and sea salt. Set aside.
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, bring heavy whipping cream to a slight boil, removing the pan from the heat immediately upon bubbling.
- Pour the heated cream over the other ingredients (from step 1), and let stand for 2 minutes. Do not stir during this time.
- Whisk the mixture until all ingredients are fully incorporated and the texture is smooth.
Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the freezer for 1 hour or until the mixture is firm enough to work with.
- Remove the mixture from the freezer and scoop out roughly 1 tablespoon at a time, rolling to form into a ball. (Try to use cool hands and work quickly to avoid melting.)
- Place truffle balls on a parchment lined baking sheet, and once all of the mixture is used, transfer the truffles to the freezer for 30 minutes or until firm.
- In a microwave safe bowl, add the remaining 8 ounces of chocolate and coconut oil.
- Heat in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
- Remove truffles from the freezer, and drop 1 truffle at a time into the melted chocolate using a fork to gently toss and coat.
- Lift the truffle out of the mixture, gently shaking off any excess, then return the truffle to the parchment lined baking sheet.
- Repeat the above step until all truffles are coated. Allow the truffles to set until firm (roughly 30 minutes). Enjoy!
Now for a few ways to savor truffle and coffee combinations…
1- Wine Coffee

One of the most popular pairings with decadently smooth truffles is wine.
Wines are said to easily match the intensely rich chocolate flavors of truffles, much like coffee.
So, if you’d like to try a flavor combination that brings you the best of all three worlds - truffles, coffee, and wine, give this a try:
Lifeboost Wild Fermented Wine Infused Coffee, freshly brewed, paired with a dark chocolate truffle.
2- Light Roast Coffee

I can’t help but shout this from the rooftops anytime there’s a mention of this bright, slightly acidic roast - our light roast coffee is my absolute favorite!
I know dark and medium roasts commonly take the coffee stage, but Lifeboost Light Roast Coffee made me a coffee drinker. I could never understate just how much I love experiencing the true tastes of our growing regions (the rainforest mountains of Nicaragua) in this brew.
Even better, these natural tastes serve to perfectly harmonize with the deeply rich flavors of a chocolate truffle.
With this pairing, try going for a milk chocolate truffle or a dark chocolate truffle with a lower cacao percentage (less than 70%).
3- Dark Roast Coffee, Dark Chocolate Flavored Coffee

If you prefer a truffle made with deeply rich dark chocolate, this demands a bolder brew pairing.
In this case, it becomes a like attracts like situation, where strong, bold brews complement the higher cacao percentages in dark chocolate truffles.
You can also opt for coffees infused with dark chocolate flavors for such pairings.
For instance, our Dark Chocolate Coconut Truffle Coffee would pair nicely with a dark chocolate truffle…yum!
Lastly, let’s make a few truffle coffee recipes…
1- Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffle Latte

Chocolate + peanut butter + coffee…yes, please!
I’ll take mine in a bowl…like a mixing bowl…how about you?
My spouse is a peanut butter cup fanatic, and I’ve never once watched him enjoy one of these sinfully sweet treats without a cup of coffee!
I suppose this pairing makes the most sense though, right? I mean chocolate and peanut butter are said to be the world’s favorite flavor combination, with coffee and chocolate following close behind.
So, what else is a coffee and chocolate and peanut butter lover to do other than combine each of these fabulous flavors into one decadently rich, incredibly delicious latte!
Ingredients
- 4 ounces very strongly brewed Lifeboost Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffle Coffee
- 4 ounces milk (your choice, dairy or non)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons real maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter
- 1 ½ tablespoons chocolate sauce, divided
- 2-3 ounces half and half or milk (for frothed topping)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, whisk together milk, vanilla, maple syrup, 1 tablespoon chocolate sauce, and peanut butter.
- Warm the mixture over low-medium heat, just until warmed through. Do not allow the mixture to boil.
- As the mixture is warming, brew coffee and pour into your favorite mug.
- Stir the warmed mixture into the hot coffee.
- Add remaining ½ tablespoon of chocolate sauce and 2-3 ounces of milk or half and half to an electric frother and froth on the heated setting.
- Pour frothed chocolate topping over the prepared latte, and enjoy!
2- Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Iced Coffee

Some of my favorite chocolate selections involve fruit, specifically berries.
For many of us, our minds immediately drift to chocolate pairings which include nuts, other chocolate varieties, or sweet inclusions such as caramel, but the contrast between sweet chocolate and tart berries creates an amazing balance of flavor as the two contrasting tastes harmonize.
So of course, when you add coffee to this combination, you’ve essentially created the ultimate dessert experience!
Ingredients
- 8 ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Coffee
- 4 ounces milk (your choice, dairy or non)
- 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup (see recipe below)
- 2 tablespoons raspberry syrup (see recipe below)
- Ice
- Whipped cream, for topping
Instructions
- Add ice to a large glass.
- Stir in cold brew, milk, chocolate syrup, and raspberry syrup.
- Once all ingredients are combined, top with whipped cream, and enjoy!
Homemade Chocolate Syrup
- ¼ cup real maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Add maple syrup and cocoa powder to a bowl and mix until well combined. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Homemade Raspberry Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup fresh raspberries
Add sugar and water to a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat for approximately one minute until sugar dissolves.
Add raspberries to the mixture and cook until the berries break down (5-6 minutes), turning the heat to low once the mixture starts to boil.
Break down the berries with a spatula when needed.
Once the berries are completely broken down, strain the syrup into a jar through a fine mesh strainer, using a spatula to force the mixture through, until all of the seeds are strained out.
Allow the mixture to cool completely prior to refrigeration. Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks in the refrigerator.
