Amaretto Coffee Cocktails Bring Rumored Romance And Rich Flavors To Fill Your Fall Mugs

7 min read SEP 28, 2023

Delightfully rich and slightly buttery, the classic amaretto flavors of almond with cherry undertones pair perfectly with a piping hot mug of robust, smooth coffee.

Even better, aside from coffee, this Italian liqueur inspired flavor combines effortlessly with chocolate and classic fall spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla.

Sounds like a perfect match for cozying up on a cool, autumn evening with a couple of amaretto coffee cocktails, one for you and one for your sweetie.

As we briefly mentioned, amaretto is an Italian liqueur, but few people know this sweet nectar has quite the romantic history, which is why we are particularly in love with the marriage of coffee and the unique flavors in this sweet liqueur.

In the early 1500’s, during the Italian Renaissance, it is said that Leonardo Da Vinci had a student by the name of Bernardo Luini.

Luini was commissioned to paint the sanctuary of a church in Saronno, Italy, and he seemed to be in a bit of a pinch as he was lacking a model to portray the patron saint of the church.

Legend tells a story that in his search for such a model he was rumored to have fallen in love with a young widowed innkeeper.

While some question this love, what is known for sure is that Luini was inspired by the woman’s appearance, prompting his desire to use her as the needed model for the painting.

And, as a token of her gratitude, or consistent with legend, her passionate love for Luini, the woman desired to give a gift to Bernardo. Lacking the funds to purchase such a gift, she made her (purported) lover a sweet liqueur, a drink she made by soaking apricot kernels in brandy.

Today, we know this romantic, buttery, almond-esque liqueur as amaretto. And, most people commonly enjoy this liqueur, in true Italian fashion, as an after dinner digestion aid, or aperitif.

So, now that we’ve introduced you to the love story behind this liqueur, we’d like to explore several ways to enjoy the marriage of this aperitif and coffee.

If you’ve had the privilege of sampling our Amaretto Coffee, you’ve enjoyed those stone-fruit undertones and you’ve savored the extracted buttery almond flavors swirling in your rich, bold brew.

But, today we’d like to take this union a step further, playing up this flavor’s alcoholic origins by compiling a few delicious ways to enjoy this brew in a tasty cocktail - to be enjoyed after dinner, before dinner, with guests, or consistent with Italian lore, shared with your sweetheart.

5 Amazing Amaretto Coffee Cocktails

1- The Classic: Amaretto Coffee

If you’ve heard of amaretto coffee, you likely know this isn’t simply a union of amaretto liqueur and coffee, but a classically known cocktail.

A true amaretto coffee adds a splash of amaretto liqueur to a piping hot cup of coffee, finished off with a topping of whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon.

The spice atop this cocktail compliments the sweet liqueur perfectly, and the result is a true wow for your tastebuds!

Here, since you’ll be using our Amaretto Coffee flavored selection, the flavor notes of the liqueur will shine a bit more, allowing you to really enjoy this romantic taste of Italy.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces freshly brewed Lifeboost Amaretto Coffee
  • 1 ounce amaretto
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ground ceylon cinnamon, for topping

Instructions

  • Place a small bowl into the freezer, and allow the bowl to chill for a few minutes prior to using.
  • Add heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla to the chilled bowl and beat on medium speed with a hand mixer until semi-stiff peaks form. You don’t want the whipped cream to be super firm, but you also don’t want the mixture to be too soft or without form. Once you’ve finished mixing, set the whipped cream aside.
  • Brew coffee and pour into your favorite mug.
  • Stir 1 ounce of amaretto liqueur into the hot coffee, then top with a few dollops of whipped cream.
  • Top with a dusting of cinnamon, and enjoy!

2- Amaretto Almond-Tini

Typically espresso gets the limelight when it comes to coffee-infused martinis, but using our Amaretto Coffee along with a little Kahlua, some amaretto, and a hint of vodka truly rivals that limelight stealing classic!

And, if you’re planning to serve this tasty cocktail to guests, check out the quick and easy fit for a pitcher section below the single-serving recipe where we do the multiplying for you, taking the guesswork out of your kitchen prep. You know…because who has time for math when planning a fabulous evening with friends?

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Amaretto Coffee
  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 1 ounce amaretto
  • ½ ounce Kahlua
  • 1 ½ ounces heavy cream
  • ice

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, and shake vigorously until frost begins to form on the outside of the shaker.
  • Strain into a martini glass, and enjoy!

*fit for a pitcher*

Combine the following ingredients in a large pitcher, stir to combine, then divide between 8 martini glasses to serve at your next gathering. Note: We’re omitting the cocktail shaker here, for obvious reasons. So, when serving, plan to do so over ice to get the same element of dilution provided by the ice in a cocktail shaker.

  • 2 cups cold brewed Lifeboost Amaretto Coffee
  • 1 cup vodka
  • 1 cup amaretto
  • ½ cup Kahlua
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream

3- Mex-Italian Ho Cho

Mexican hot chocolate incorporates typical ingredients such as dark or milk chocolate with cream or milk, but this combination is amplified with a bit of spice from cinnamon and a little heat from cayenne pepper.

We’ll omit the cayenne here, but we are going to combine this Mexican classic with a traditional amaretto coffee, bringing together the flavors of these two historically rich drinks into one amazingly delicious cocktail!

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces freshly brewed Lifeboost Amaretto Coffee
  • ⅔ cup grass fed organic whole milk
  • 1 ¾ ounces finely chopped dark chocolate
  • 1 ¼ ounces finely chopped milk chocolate
  • 1 ounce heavy cream
  • ½ ounce milk
  • ¾ ounce amaretto
  • 1 pinch ground ceylon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Brew coffee, and set aside.
  • Combine 1 ounce heavy cream and ½ ounce milk, stir together, and set aside. (If you have light cream, you can simply use 1 ½ ounces of light cream here. If you can not find light cream, combine the heavy cream and milk.)
  • Add ⅔ cup milk to a small saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, just until it simmers. Do not allow the milk to scorch.
  • Once the milk is heated and simmering, add both kinds of chocolate and stir until it is completely melted.
  • Once the chocolate is melted, whisk in the heavy cream and milk mixture (1 ½ ounces from step #2) and amaretto.
  • Heat until the mixture is hot, but not boiling, then stir in cinnamon.
  • Whisk the heated mixture to allow a bit of foam to form, then pour over the brewed coffee in your favorite mug, and enjoy!

4- Hot Buttered Amaretto For Two

Confession, there’s actually no butter in this cocktail, but there is warm, rich rum, amaretto, hot coffee, and a buttery smooth heavy cream, a combination that is truly phenomenal.

You’ll also be adding a little bit of citrus flavor via Grand Marnier here, and let me say, this slightly sweet, crisp orange element is the perfect amaretto companion!

Ingredients (serves 2)

16 ounces freshly brewed Lifeboost Amaretto Coffee
2 ounces amaretto
3 ounces dark rum
2 ounces Grand Marnier
4 ounces heavy whipping cream

Instructions

Divide coffee between two mugs.
Stir 1 ½ ounces of rum and 1 ounce of Grand Marnier into each mug of coffee, and set aside.
Add heavy whipping cream and amaretto to an electric frother and froth on the heated setting.
Top each mug of spiked coffee with equal amounts of the heated, frothed amaretto cream, and enjoy!

5- Amaretto Affogato

We’ll finish things out today with a sweet, slightly boozy, decadent treat - a coffee and amaretto topped scoop of rich, creamy, and smooth chocolate ice cream.

Belgian chocolate ice cream is recommended here, but you can easily opt for a different chocolate choice as long as you choose a quality ice cream.

Also, feel free to opt for vanilla ice cream or gelato in this recipe, but if you’re looking for a perfect pairing of flavors, as we mentioned in the intro today, amaretto does indeed pair well with chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces strongly brewed Lifeboost Amaretto Coffee
  • 1 large scoop Belgian chocolate ice cream
  • ½ ounce amaretto
  • Grated dark chocolate, for topping

Instructions

  • Brew coffee and set aside.
  • Add one scoop of chocolate ice cream into a bowl or mug.
  • Pour amaretto over ice cream, then top with hot coffee.
  • Sprinkle grated dark chocolate over the affogato, if desired, and enjoy!
