The Backstory About Espresso Macchiato

Espresso macchiatos are single or double shots of espresso topped with a heaped spoon of milk or cream.

It originates from Italy and to this day is a favorite among Italians. It serves as a pick-me-up and a way to start your day off right.

An espresso is a type of coffee bean that is finely grounded and concentrated during the brewing process to have a layer of what we call a crema. It has less caffeine than your regular cup of filtered joe but will still provide you with that wake-up kick you need.

Now combining the kick of espresso with the technique of macchiatos, we have the very popular iced espresso macchiato.

This provides the same kick as your standard espresso but it’s colder so you can enjoy it on even the hottest summer days.

From iced hazelnut macchiatos to the standard caffeine-filled iced espresso macchiato, there are many flavors and methods to enjoy a good, iced macchiato.

How to Make an Iced Espresso Macchiato

You don’t need much to make the perfect iced espresso macchiato, so be sure that you have all the necessary ingredients so that you don’t end up running to the store.

Since we’re making a standard espresso macchiato, there’s no need for syrup or other flavorings. If you want to make an iced salted caramel macchiato, we recommend using vanilla syrup as a base as this will help with the flavoring.

What we will need however is some milk. Your choice of milk is all dependent on your personal preference.

If you’re vegan, then making use of oat milk will be perfect. What we want to see is that creamy layer before we stir everything together and making use of any milk will guarantee us that beautiful color.

There are plenty of recipes for coffee drinks with vegan milk, so do feel disheartened if you’re looking for a great almond milk caramel macchiato.

Now for our key ingredient: the coffee. In this case, we will be using espresso. Some simple espresso beans or grounds will be perfect.

Lifeboost has a variety of grounds and beans, from medium roast  to a darker roast for those who enjoy it a little stronger.

What’s even better is that life boost offers ground or whole-bean espresso so you can use whichever works best for you.

The last ingredient we need is some ice. While using normal ice blocks won’t hurt anybody, if you can, we recommend freezing leftover coffee into trays that can be used as coffee blocks.

This enhances the flavor of the espresso and means your coffee will be less watered-down as the ice melts.

Step 1: Prepare your iced espresso macchiato by pouring a ¾ cup of milk into your cup. Feel free to add any syrups as a base but we are going to be sticking to a strictly iced espresso macchiato — so there are no extra flavors.

As for the milk, many people enjoy iced caramel macchiato with almond milk, but no matter what macchiato you are making, the milk you use is down to personal preference.

Step 2: Next you want to add your ice cubes. You don’t want a super watery iced espresso macchiato so be sure to add 4 to 6 ice blocks and even less if you are using the coffee cubes.

Step 3: Brew your espresso grounds in 3 ounces of boiling water. We recommend using 2 ounces of espresso to get the perfect amount of caffeine but start smaller if you aren’t too certain about what you like.

Step 4: Once the espresso is brewed, slowly pour it into the icy milk, and stir during the process.

As an optional step, feel free to add a drizzle of chocolate sauce to the top if you need an iced chocolate macchiato if the espresso taste is too strong.

Lifeboost, as always, has provided the market with espresso beans and grounds that can make the process of making an iced espresso macchiato easier and give it a more authentic taste.

Follow all the steps as per usual. However, in step 3, use Lifeboost’s grounded espresso instead of your store-bought espresso powder.

The reason we recommend these beans is due to their sugar-free and low-acid contents, making for a healthier iced espresso macchiato. In terms of flavor, it has an undertone of chocolate along with a beautiful coffee aroma.

Because it contains no sugar. Many coffee drinkers look towards Lifeboost to provide them with the best sugar-free products. For example, if you need to make a sugar-free iced caramel macchiato, Lifeboost has grounded products for caramel macchiatos.
