And we can have emotional stress that is more continuous, such as family conflict, relationship troubles, caring for a sick or dying loved one, or feeling constantly under pressure at work.
This continual stress can cause harmful levels of stress hormones like cortisol to be released too often... in effect, to always be present in our bodies…
Of course, as we age, it's also common to worry about our finances or job security, and even experience social alienation or isolation.

My point is, there are countless sources of emotional stress (including stress that isn’t your own), and your body’s well-adapted survival defenses against physical dangers are not very effective at handling these more continuous emotional stressors...
It never gets a break.
Over time, this repeated activation creates the “frazzled HPA Axis” I mentioned earlier…
What happens is our adrenal glands are constantly turned “on,”pumping more and more toxic stress hormones into our bloodstream for events that pose no real threat to our physical survival.
