While you’re enjoying your cup of health...I mean powerhouse of healing...I mean cup of coffee, you can incorporate this next healthy habit into your morning routine. (And, if you need a bit of food as a pre-workout, add this in here too as we’ll be getting you up and moving shortly.)
Each morning, make a list (you can start with just 5 things) that you are thankful or grateful for.
Gratitude is simply the practice of being grateful. And, to get your morning started off on the right foot, being intentionally grateful is a necessity.
So, grab a pen and some paper, because studies show that actually writing out your list as opposed to only thinking about it in your head, will make your brain more likely to remember these things throughout your day.
Some folks like to list things they are grateful for from the previous day when they incorporate this practice first thing in the morning, but you can choose from anything your grateful heart desires.
Some examples may include gratefulness for: people, circumstances, opportunities, friendships, achieved goals, health, and growth.
Perhaps your entries look something like this, I’m grateful for:
...our new kitten
...that I made a healthy choice for lunch yesterday
...the random conversation with my elderly neighbor last night
...the sun’s rays coming through my kitchen window
Incorporating this practice can add health to your day in the following ways:
Physically- improves heart health, reduces inflammation, decreases physical aches and pains, lowers stress hormone levels, and boosts your immune system
Emotionally- increases optimism, promotes happiness, increases feelings of joy, promotes kindness, makes you more forgiving, and helps you to be more outgoing
Mentally- improves self-esteem and gives you a greater sense of self-worth, gives perspective, gives hope, and reduces actual stress
